Great retro 40s vibe to this color scheme. I bought this to replace the faded - and way out of date - globe in a floor model I had.
Now this is the Globe, pictures don't do justice it is gorgeous. Led lighting is even through out the surface and National Geographic has done a incredible job. 1st make sure switch is off. Charge it 6 hrs by provided USB charger and cord after that unplug , now you can turn it on/off for a controlled 5 mins just by tapping the Globe. I called Replogle to ask for better attachment pins and to register it for warranty and updates and the people were very friendly, so do that.
This is a beautiful globe. I’m giving 4 stars because it’s extremely light. It’s nice and large, the states and countries are legible. The spin is functional. I may have liked a lighter globe better? This one is able to be used.
Globe not only doesn't light up as picture indicates, but globe colors are not as pictured. Very disappointed. And as you can see in photo, paper has bubbles.
I wasn’t expecting this cheap material for the price I paid. It says solid wood, yes right the base is wood but the top and the thing around it??? Its made of cheap plastic material. It makes it look like bought for 40-50$. Would be better if it was made of metal instead of cheap plastic. I bought it as a gift and i feel embarrassed since the globe doesn’t show the price. By the way, some people have mentioned on the reviews that there are some bumps and air trapped under the cover. They are actually showing the mountains not faults in the product
It has the raised areas for the mountains, it also has the most perfect amount of spin. It stays where you want, and ofc most importantly, it has the Gulf of Mexico.
This globe is absolutely gorgeous. The actual product is, if anything, even more beautiful than the photos above convey and it has more locations and geographic features labeled than I realized when I ordered it. It has not only every country, state or province, major city, major river, lake, sea, island, and mountain range labeled, but even some individual mountains and historically or anthropologically significant caves, gorges, and canyons (e.g., Chauvet Cave in France, the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, etc.).There are drawings of historically significant ships in the various oceans, including a Viking longship off the coast of Newfoundland, the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María in the North Atlantic, the H.M.S. Beagle off the coast of the Galapagos Islands, a Polynesian canoe in the Pacific, one of the Chinese explorer Zheng He's junks in the Bay of Bengal, and Vasco de Gama's São Gabriel in the Arabian Sea, etc.). The mountain ranges are slightly raised on the surface of the globe. The surface of the globe has a slightly reflective sheen to it and the base is certainly real wood. The mount is plastic, not metal, but it looks fine nonetheless. It is more expensive than most globes, but it is of superior quality. It will fit very well in any office, study, or personal library with a traditional aesthetic. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
After doing some considerable research, this was an excellent choice. There are not many 16” illuminated globes to be found. (1” equals about 500 miles). Anything smaller would be too difficult to read the names and places. The quality is high. The ball is acrylic with a metal frame and meridian. It has a 9” diameter by 1” thick wooden base. Looks fantastic at night. The 1/4“ clearance at the bottom could be greater though which would allow room for the cord and switch to slip through when flipping to view the south pole. Would highly recommend. I'm very happy and pleased with this selection.
I keep this globe in display in my office to make myself look s̶o̶f̶i̶s̶t̶i̶c̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ s̶o̶p̶h̶i̶s̶o̶c̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ SMART.
I was in search of an antique-looking globe on a wooden stand, and I found it with this globe. I am very happy with the way the globe and its stand look. The wood is a beautiful cherry stain, the stand is fairly easy to assemble, and the coloring of the oceans and countries of the globe is a beautiful neutral palette. The globe has a mechanism using the rods sticking out of the poles to switch out the globe for a more up to date one (at half price btw). But I took a star off because the rod sticking out of the south pole was too long, jamming up against the circle of the wooden stand, and preventing me from being able to study the southern hemisphere. For this kind of money it should all work perfectly right out of the box. But I was able to trim the rod using an X-ACTO metal saw. Now it works just fine. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.
At first my item arrived damaged. Probably not sellers fault. More like USPS handling. Almost like Ace Ventura pet detective when he was dressed up as a UPS delivery carrier and starts throwing and kicking the box. Lol. Contacted seller and immediately they sent me another one and it came in perfect condition. Customer service was great and responded fast. Great globe. Highly recommended.
When debates arise at home (only at home) - we’ve debated way tooooo long so I bought the globe . Comes with a flat version as seen above !! Good stuff
I upgraded to this 12-in model from my old 9-in diameter Replogle globe. With 78% more surface area, the thousands of listed locations are so easy to read compared to my last globe, and I love how you can feel the topography of the mountain ranges. Now, whenever my 9-year-old daughter has a question about geography, I just show her on the globe. Additionally, I love how this particular model has all of the US states listed as well, which you don't find on every globe.
NOTE !!!!! I added my own mount, the globe comes with a nice clear plastic base that allows the globe to rotate in any direction. All the landings of Apollo are marked. The company that makes this globe is in the United States and the globe is made in the USA.
Beautifully made world globe! My son is thrilled to have and doubles as the most beautiful light on our landing!
Nice conversation piece and good way to remember geography without high tech gadgets.
My grandfather had I think the same ide rival one. I bought this given the reputation and history of Replogle gloves. I’ve read issues with cheaper gloves not representing country anatomy properly and wanted to avoid that. Love the “raised relief” feature which is basically bumps and grooves where there are mountains. Now my son can get a better idea of countries in relation to each other. Nothing replaces a globe and the way it can give perspective of the world.
This globe is an excellent value - as large and elegantly styled as most other floor-standing models costing hundreds of dollars more. I love the way it looks in my home office. The only thing to advise other purchasers is that the small bit of required assembly (attaching the legs to the stand shaft and then screwing the globe to the stand) is a bit tricky because the legs attach via screws through a pocket at the bottom of the shaft and the space is very tight. They provide an allen wrench to tighten the screws, but the space is so limited you can only get, oh, 1/16th of a turn with the wrench each time, which would have made installing all 3 legs a really tedious and hand-cramping proposition. I finally figured out that by using the wrench to get the screws started, I could then get enough pressure with a finger inserted in the pocket and pressed against the screw head to turn the screws and tighten them most of the way before having to resort to the allen wrench once more for the final tightening. One additional plus: Replogle also provides a card that allows a 50% discount on a new globe ball should the world's political boundaries change (as they do). But you need to write the globe's model number on the card and save it in a safe place for future use, and that number is only found on your order documentation...if it is written somewhere on the globe itself, I was unable to find it.Overall, I highly recommend this model for anyone wanting a handsome, larger, floor-standing globe.
I had always wanted a globe, now at 74, I have my first one. It's made in my home state of Illinois, and I proudly say, made in the USA.
This globe has been effective and invaluable for our studies. We've been impressed by the details. It looks gorgeous as a centerpiece so it is not something I feel needs to be picked up and put away if we have company come. We also like the ships and dates of their voyage. Overall it has been perfect for our needs and we are enjoying it as a learning tool.
